Real Madrid to target goalkeeper with €50m release clause to replace Courtois

Real Madrid could target Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon as a possible Thibaut Courtois replacement. The 27-year-old goalkeeper moved to Santiago Bernabeu last August but struggles to show his best as he has managed to make only 13 clean sheets for Los Blancos so far. As El Desmarque reports, Zidane’s side have identified Simon as a replacement for Courtois. The 22-year-old joined Athletic Bilbao’s senior team last summer and has made 19 appearances for the club so far, keeping 7 clean sheets. This season, Simon has been a regular for Gaizka Garitano’s side, featuring in 8 of their 9 matches. His current contract with Bilbao will expire in 2023 and reportedly, it has a €50 million worth release clause. The Spanish goalkeeper has done quite well so far and Real Madrid may make a move for him if Courtois doesn’t improve his performance.
