Manchester City injury update on Sergio Aguero ahead of Champions League

Pep Guardiola is planning to face Real Madrid without Sergio Aguero but Manchester City remain hopeful that he will return soon. Aguero suffered a problem with his meniscus in the second game back after the restart. He will miss the remainder of the Premier League and FA Cup campaign after undergoing surgery in Barcelona. Following the FA Cup final on August 1 should the Blues make it, Guardiola's side will then resume their Champions League campaign with the second leg of their last-16 clash against Real Madrid. Asked about the absence of Aguero following the 4-0 thumping of Liverpool, City's manager indicated that the last-16 clash with Real Madrid will come too soon for the striker to return. "Unfortunately Sergio is injured so he couldn't be here," said Guardiola. "We will wait for him. I don't know if he will be ready for the Champions League, the second leg against Madrid it is impossible. But we have to look forward. We are going to wait for him, and with the players that we have we are going to do it." Source: MEN
