Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday was the 10th straight away game in the Champions League quarter-final that Pep Guardiola has failed to win.
The Spaniard has won just six out of 26 knockout matches away from home in the Champions League.
Guardiola’s last quarter-final victory was in 2011 when Phil Foden was at junior school.
Eight years ago, he was sent off and Lionel Messi scored two goals, as Barcelona beat Real Madrid in the semi-final.
Pep Guardiola's last 10 away Champions League quarter/semi-finals
- 0-1 Tottenham (QF)
- 0-3 Liverpool (QF)
- 0-1 Atletico Madrid (SF)
- 2-2 Benfica (QF)
- 0-3 Barcelona (SF)
- 1-3 Porto (QF)
- 0-1 Real Madrid (SF)
- 1-1 Manchester United (QF)
- 0-1 Chelsea (BAR, SF)
- 0-0 Milan (BAR, QF)
However, Guardiola said City's loss to Tottenham could prove better than a 0-0 draw in their Champions League quarter-final first leg, as his side "know what they have to do" to progress.
Guardiola said: "It leaves us in this situation in the second leg, but sometimes 1-0 can be better than 0-0 because you know exactly what you have to do. At 0-0, you think about whether to go attacking or defending, but we know we have to score goals. We'll be analysing the result, but right now I feel good about how we played - we controlled the game and maybe next week it will work."
The second leg of the quarter-final between Spurs and City will be played on Wednesday, April 17.
