What Pep Guardiola said about Kevin De Bruyne's Manchester City form amid struggles

Pep Guardiola claims Kevin De Bruyne is suffering from the same football malaise that has hit Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez. The Belgian international has been trying to find his rhythm and passing range since returning from injury this season, but again struggled as the Blues lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend. Guardiola was asked whether he was thinking of “resting” De Bruyne, he revealed his thoughts on De Bruyne, as well as Mahrez and Sterling, who have both failed to nail down a place in the team this season.
“About the playing or the rest is my decision because I know a lot of information about what happens,” said Guardiola.   “But our standards as a team, individually and collectively, are so high.   “We know how difficult it is to maintain it, but not just him (De Bruyne). Riyad, Raheem … all the top players who helped us to win, to do what we achieved in the past.   “In seasons there are highs and lows, big moments and places to be strong here and be positive and the next one is another challenge, another opportunity. This is what is it is and Kevin knows it.   “He has done more than good since he arrived here and he wants to continue to do it. The problem is when he gives up and says it doesn’t matter.   “That is not the case (here). Or with any player that is not the case.”
The City boss also gave a timely reminder of the influence De Bruyne has had in recent seasons, when he has arguably been City’s most effective player.
“Everything we have done in these years is thanks to a person like him,” said Guardiola.   “He is such an important player for us and an excellent person. He is trying more and more every single day.
