Virgil Van Dijk speaks out on Ballon d'Or battle with Lionel Messi

Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk has won PFA Player of the Year award, as it has officially been announced earlier today. Dutch international has been impressive since joining Merseyside club in January of 2018. With Van Dijk in defense Jurgen Klopp's side have currently conceded only 20 times, which is the best result in the league. Liverpool will visit Barcelona to face Ernesto Valverde's side in the first leg of Champions League semi-finals. Van Dijk, who is supposed to be one of the opponents of Lionel Messi for 2019 Ballon d'Or, says he doesn't think about the competition with the Argentine, and it is rather better to concentrate on upcoming matches. "Nah, that's not something that's on my mind at all," Van Dijk said (via Daily Mail). Netherlands international also added that they are going to concentrate on Barcelona and then on Newcastle, as title race with Manchester City keeps going on with only 2 matches remaining for both clubs. Manchester City beat Burnely in away match to return to the top of the table with 1 point advantage over Reds.
