Dutch official Bjorn Kuipers will take charge of the semi-final first leg clash between Barcelona and Liverpool at Camp Nou on Wednesday, May 1.
Kuipers has been in charge of five previous Liverpool games, with the Reds recording four wins and a draw.
According to Barcelona newspaper
Mundo Deportivo, Kuipers is a “permissive referee” as they point to his performance when Barca were eliminated from the Champions League by Juventus at home in 2017.
“As an example, he did not show a yellow card to Miralem Pjanic after taking ahead to Lionel Messi, who fell to lead from the air. Leo's left cheekbone came to bleed. In the same game, he missed a step from Dani Alves to Neymar on the front and a nudge from Gonzalo Higuain to Samuel Umtiti," wrote the newspaper.
While another outlet,
Sport, claim Kuipers is one of the best referees on the Continent.
