Steve Bruce admits £40m Newcastle flop isn't a "natural goalscorer"

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has admitted Joelinton isn't interested enough in scoring goals. The Brazilian became the Magpies' £40m record signing from Hoffenheim last summer and was expected to sparkle at St. James’ Park. However, the forward has scored just one goal in 26 Premier League appearances. He has totally netted 24 times, contributing to Steve Bruce’s side in the league. Speaking on Joelinton, Newcastle boss said: "The great strikers the goal scorers... all they are interested in is scoring. Joe is not like that. He is a team player. He has to be more selfish like a top scorer. You can put on as many finishing drills as you want but he will be measured by goals. His work rate and attitude means he doesn't shy away from it. He is 22, it has been a learning curve. He is still just a baby. I am convinced he can come good, let's hope it is at Palace." Bruce wants to fit-again another Newcaslte player Dwight Gayle and challenge him after a long term absence due to his injuries. "It would have been nice to have had him the last 5 months. We have talked about him moving away more than being on the pitch. He has been injured, horrible calf, horrible hamstring injury. We have not really seen him. When we have I have been impressed with him. For 12-13 games I hope he can stay injury free and contribute," he added.
