Sharks complete two signings as one star retires

Cronulla Sharks have confirmed that experienced second rower Jayson Bukuya has retired from the NRL with immediate effect. They have also announced the signing of Nene Macdonald and will soon do the same with Bryson Goodwin. The Fijian international retires after 168 appearances for the Sharks, including winning the 2016 Premiership, and has also featured 11 times for Fiji. Speaking to the club's website, Sharks head coach John Morris paid tribute to the contributions of the 31 year old. He said: “We wish Jayson all the best and congratulate him on a great career. He will always be treasured at the Club for not only being a part of the 2016 Premiership winning team but also for the great person he was. “He was an outstanding clubman who always gave his best both on and off the field.” Morris also confirmed the signing of Nene Macdonald, while speaking to the NRL official website. “We’ve secured Nene so that’s exciting news,” he said. “Losing Josh Morris at the start of the year, releasing him and then the Bronson situation has left us pretty short in the outside backs.” The Sharks have been looking for some experience out wide after losing Josh Morris to Sydney Roosters and young star Bronson Xerri was stood down indefinitely for failing a drugs test and bring in PNG international Macdonald and 34 year old Goodwin to boost their back line stocks.
