Roger Federer: “It's incredible how far my Foundation has come”

Roger Federer has the most impressive stats you will ever find in an athlete. Outside of his excellent gameplay, Federer leads a well-rounded life off the court as well. In an interview, he spoke about his activity with the Foundation named after him and the great things they have achieved so far. Federer, who last visited Africa in Zambia last year and will play an exhibition match in February 2020 with Rafael Nadal in Cape Town, said: "When I visit the preschools we support, I see children filled with joy. They are full of eagerness to reach their potential. It is a privilege that through my Foundation I can be part of their journey. I started my Foundation back in 2003. It is incredible how much I have learned and how far we have come. "Today we support six education programs in southern Africa and Switzerland. I strongly believe that a good start in education is crucial to empower children in a sustainable manner. Over one million children have benefited from our intervention. This makes me feel elated yet humble. There are still millions of children with no access to quality preschool. They need our support. We take it for granted that children have access to play, nutritious meals, learning materials and good teachers. "Unfortunately, many communities lack of all these important elements. My Foundation funds programmes ensuring these basic conditions. Local stakeholders are the front runners of all initiatives. Parents, community members or local leaders mobilize and engage for a better quality early education. Our role is to enable and support them wherever we can. As a dad, I experienced every day how much energy my kids have and curiosity to discover the world. I remain committed to empowering further millions of disadvantaged children to do the same because children are tomorrow's future."
