Real Madrid defender Marcelo could miss the second leg of his side’s Champions League semi-final vs Chelsea next week due to an unusual reason.
The defender started the first leg in Madrid on Tuesday, which finished in 1-1 draw following goals from Christian Pulisic and Karim Benzema.
According to Spanish newspaper
El Mundo, the 32-year-old has been chosen for polling duty in Madrid’s upcoming elections. Madrid’s citizens will head to the polls next Tuesday for elections to the 136-seat regional assembly in a day which is seen as a mid-term test for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's ruling coalition.
Real have protested against the decision, however, the report states that the electoral board argues that Marcelo could fly to London on Wednesday, a day later than his team-mates.
