Rafael Nadal applauds David Ferrer for Barcelona open shot

Rafael Nadal could only stand and applaud as David Ferrer produced an outrageous shot at the Barcelona Open. The 11-time Barcelona Open champion beat Ferrer 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 event for the 13th time. After getting an early break and leading 2-0, Nadal tried to double his advantage. Ferrer was sent right and then left when he produced the remarkable lob. Nadal had moved into the net to finish off the point but Ferrer found the last millimetre off paint in the back left corner. The 17-time Grand Slam Winner was so impressed he applauded the effort - which also drew a standing ovation from the crowd.
Nadal will face Stefanos Tsitispas or Jan-Lennard Struff for a place in the semi-finals.
