Pep Guardiola now identifies young star as Kevin De Bruyne's long-term replacement

Kevin De Bruyne's future at Manchester City appears less certain than before.

The Belgian playmaker, who has long been the linchpin of Pep Guardiola's vision for the team, has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in the season's opening match against Burnley back in August.

In the two and a half months since the midfielder's absence, City have demonstrated their adaptability, while they've undoubtedly missed his creativity and energy on the field, the team currently sits comfortably in second place in the Premier League, just two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur.

Furthermore, they maintain a perfect record in the Champions League. This success has led some to speculate that Guardiola's side may be considering allowing De Bruyne's contract to run its course, a notion that seemed unthinkable just a few months ago.

One reason for this shift in perspective may be the Manchester giant's pursuit of what they believe could be the perfect successor for their midfield sensation, is Jamal Musiala.

According to Sport, the current treble winners have set their sights on Bayern Munich's young talent. The German international has been making waves with his remarkable performances, and his style of play bears resemblances to the Beglian star's.

While De Bruyne's future remains uncertain, the emergence of a promising talent like the 20-year-old Musiala offers Manchester City a potential path forward, should they decide to let their midfield maestro's contract expire.
