Paul Merson names his pick for Premier League Manager of the Year award

Paul Merson believes Frank Lampard's "phenomenal" first season as Chelsea boss should see him win the Premier League Manager of the Year award. The English boss was chosen as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement at Stamford Bridge last summer. The Blues have Champions League qualification in their own hands with just two Premier League games remaining and are into the final of the FA Cup after an impressive 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp looks primed to pick up the Manager of the Year award after guiding the Reds to their first league title in over 30 years. But Merson believes Lampard should win. "I thought Chelsea were outstanding [against Manchester United], absolutely brilliant," Merson told Sky Sports. "Chelsea are in the same position as Man Utd, and they played a strong side. They’ve got to go to Liverpool and play at home to Wolves! Frank Lampard knows if he wins the FA Cup, it’s a huge achievement. "We spoke about this being a consolidating year for Chelsea, well he’s two games away from the top four and he’s one game from the FA Cup. For his first year in the top flight, where he couldn’t buy a player, he should get the manager of the year! It’s phenomenal." Source: Metro
