Arsenal are set to face Aston Villa on Friday in the Premier League.
Ahead of the game head coach Mikel Arteta has talked to the press and was asked about Emi Martinezmartine, a goalkeeper they sold to Aston Villa last summer.
Gunners were heavily criticised for selling the Argentinian, however, Arteta defends their decision. He said:
"We made decisions with the best possible intentions and looking for the best interests of the club. But as well a very strong participant was Emi, who deserves all the credit for the amount of time he spent at the club and don’t forget that he had different spells on loan as well.
"He got to a point in his career where, under me, he started to play in important games and he did extremely well.
"His ambition, his belief and where he wanted to take his career was very different. It was urgent for him because he was so patient for so long. I’m really happy that he’s doing so well.
"He’s a great keeper. I played with him, I managed him, and he has tremendous personality as well and he’s showing that at Aston Villa and the national team. I can say that I’m happy for him.
"We have two fantastic goalkeepers and we have another two academy players behind them. I think we are really strong in that position at the moment."
