Maurizio Sarri calls on Callum Hudson-Odoi to ‘respect the academy’

Maurizio Sarri has called on Callum Hudson-Odoi to show greater respect to Chelsea and their academy after he tried to force through a move to Bayern Munich by submitting a transfer request. The 18-year-old tried to push through the move by handing in a transfer request to Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia on Saturday after seeing the club turn down a £35m plus add-ons bid from the Bundesliga giants. However, Sarri is hoping that the youngster sticks it out with the Blues and that he remembers who helped him get to this stage in his career. "Callum is 18. He has to respect the club, the academy, everything. He has time," Sarri said. "Respect the academy. If you are one of the best young players in Europe, maybe the academy helped you. So you have to respect this. "I think so [owes the club something]. Of course, he's a very great player. He will become one of the best in Europe also in another team, but he has to respect the work of the academy coaches, I think. "Because here, I think, it's his home," Sarri added. "We will be patient with him because he's a boy from the academy. I don't know if, at another club, people would be patient with him after five or six matches. Hudson-Odoi has amassed just 61 minutes of Premier League football in three substitute appearances against Watford, Newcastle and Arsenal over the past few weeks. Chelsea, though, are adamant that he will be going nowhere, even though his contract is set to expire in 18-months time.
