Manchester United's net debt increases by £127.4m to £429.1m in a year

Manchester United’s net debt rose by almost £130million after Harry Maguire arrived at the club. The centre back became the most expensive defender in history when joining from Leicester last summer in an £80million deal. While transfers are usually made in instalments, United agreed to pay the fee upfront after months of negotiations over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target. United's net debt rose from £301.7million to £429million, according to the latest financial figures released to the New York Stock Exchange. The signing of Maguire was the key reason for the jump, while the first instalments of Bruno Fernandes’ £47million January move from Sporting Lisbon also had an impact. United’s gross debt remains at £531million. Source: Evening Standard
