Manchester City’s wage bill rose by £55 million last year. It was the biggest annual leap in the club’s history and they overtake Real Madrid in the list of the world’s top players.
City reported record revenues of £535 million and a £10.1 million profit in their annual report.
The salary bill was £315 million last season, partly fueled by bonus payments after a season of unprecedented domestic success.
The club's wage to turnover ratio had risen significantly, from 52 per cent in 2017/18, to 59 per cent.
Domestically, City remain second only to neighbours United (£332million) in terms of their overall spend on wages.
