Manchester City "make contact" with Atletico Madrid star valued at €100m

Manchester City have made contact with Atletico Madrid for defender José Gimenez, according to Duncan Castles on the TransferPodcast. Gimenez joined the Spanish club back in 2013, becoming a key player for his side. He has made 26 appearances in all competitions this term, assisting one goal. The Citizens' boss Pep Guardiola is eager to strengthen the defence during the summer transfer window. His side have been strongly linked with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly. However, Castles suggests the club considers other options as well. He claims that City have made contact for the 25-year-old, though Atletico "did not respond well" and demanded a fee of at least €100m for the defender. Ruben Dias remains another possible target, with Benfica ready to sell the player should they receive "sufficiently large offer".
