RB Leipzig player Timo Werner, who has been a target for Liverpool has refused to sign a new deal at his current club.
Werner, 23, is considered to be one of the biggest talents in German football.
But he won't be staying with the Bundesliga club for much longer.
"It’s well known that we want to extend with him, but he’s signalled to us that he does not want to sign a new contract," chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff told Sky Sports.
"We need to see what’s right for us and for Timo."
Liverpool need another attacker with worries growing about a Plan B if one of their three forwards picks up an injury.
Jurgen Klopp's side moved back on top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.
They now head to Porto for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final and take a 2-0 advantage to Portugal.
