Liverpool owners FSG give Jurgen Klopp January green light as five-man shortlist drawn up

Liverpool have reportedly been given a green light as five players have emerged on a centre-back shortlist ahead of the January transfer window. Virgil Van Dijk set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury and both Fabinho and Joel Matip also sidelined with fitness problems. Owners Fenway Sports Group are said to be willing to sign a new central defender provided that any deal makes financial sense for the club. Liverpool have refused to rule out the possibility of using the market to strengthen at the back. As they consider freshening up their options at the back, it is claimed by 90min that Liverpool would be willing to spend up to £40m on a new face. With Brighton's Ben White and Schalke's Ozan Kabak among those to be linked to Liverpool in the summer.
