Lionel Messi speaks out on the rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo after winning the Best Men's Player award

Lionel Messi won the Best Men's Player award yesterday in Milan, Italy by having been nominated along with Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo. After the ceremony, Messi was asked about his rivalry with former Real Madrid star as he revealed that it is purely professional. "People think that the rivalry goes beyond football, but it doesn't," said Messi while speaking to FIFA. "We both want what's best for our teams and neither of us like losing. It's something we don't accept. That's why there's that competitiveness between us. The important thing is that it stays out there, on the pitch." “It’s been four years since we’ve won the Champions League and we really want to win it again," he continued. “We know, though, that if we don’t do the job day in day out, then we won’t make it. Lionel Messi gave his vote to Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Frenkie de Jong, while Ronaldo voted for Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Kylian Mbappe. via Mirror
