Leicester City, as well as the Premier League clubs, have been handed a £500,000 boost ahead of the January transfer window as a deal was signed between the Premier League and Apple TV show Ted Lasso.
Apple's hit show had a successful two seasons and a licensing deal has reportedly been reached, which will allow the TV show to use club kits, badges and likenesses during the third series.
According to
the Athletic, the deal will see Apple pay the league £500,000 in order to increase the authenticity of the show.
Ted Lasso is a TV show about a coach hired to deliberately sabotage his local team AFC Richmond, a move which backfires as he begins to win over fans with his character.
The Emmy-winning show has become an international hit and reportedly won over sceptical Premier League bosses, who hope that the deal will help to bring ‘fresh eyes’ to the Premier League and ‘break new ground’ in a deal between a TV show and sports competition.
The money would come as a boost to the Premier League following the Covid pandemic and ahead of the January transfer window, which clubs are already preparing for.
Leicester have already been linked with players ahead of the winter window, including Italy international Domenico Berardi and Hull City striker Keane Lewis-Potter.
