Jamie Carragher labels three of Arsenal's recent signings a "joke", speaks on Mikel Arteta's role at the club

Jamie Carragher has labelled three of Arsenal's recent signings as "a joke" but urged the club to stick with Mikel Arteta as manager. Gunners' boss is under pressure amid the club's recent poor form in the Premier League. Arteta spent more than £70million to bring new players at the Emirates  Stadium, while their arrival didn't hugely impact on the club's game. Moreover, Carragher has criticised other new arrivals - including one from Unai Emery's reign - but hinted the Arsenal hierarchy were to blame for the club's messy transfer strategy. "I think Mikel Arteta is a manager, for me, there might be talk about him being under pressure now but the situation he’s in, I wouldn’t even think about Mikel Arteta’s position," he told Sky Sports'Monday Night Football . "I really like Mikel Arteta. There’s a lot of nonsense around the club – bringing players, buying players. "I think some signings were a joke. In terms of bringing Willian in, [David] Luiz in, Cedric [Soares] in. "Is Kia Joorabchian making signings at the club?" Then he added: "Mikel Arteta has brought in Thomas Partey and Gabriel. They look like Arsenal’s two best players at this moment, certainly early stages this season. "They’ve had four managers and three CEOs since 2018. Just stick with Arteta. But there’s going to be a lot of pain for Arsenal.
