Fabinho reveals player who convinced him to pick Liverpool over Manchester United

Fabinho has revealed why he didn’t press ahead with possible plans to join Manchester United in the summer. The Liverpool midfielder says he had to choose between Manchester United and Liverpool before leaving Monaco for £43.7million. The 25-year-old was linked with Old Trafford with Jose Mourinho desperate to add another defensive midfielder to his ranks. But Fabinho picked Anfield - and has spoken for the first time about why. “Bobby (Firmino) played an important role in me coming here," he told Sky Sports . "Before coming here, I’d spoken to him about what it’s like at the club and what the city is like as well as the good areas to live in. “It’s always good to have compatriots with you when you join a new club, so my friendship with him has been important.” Fabinho has also stressed that he loves playing under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp. “He’s a coach who demands a lot and is very close to his players,” Fabinho added. “I think that both the coach and the coaching staff try to get the best out of the players. “We know what he wants from the team and we’re trying to put that into practice every week.” Liverpool went back to the top of the Premier League on Sunday as they edged past Fulham 2-1.
