Jaap Stam has stated that Everton linked Luis Alberto is a ‘great player’ who could have played for the Dutchman’s treble-winning Manchester United side.

According to Corriere dello Sera, the Toffees have been targeting Lazio midfielder, who has scored five goals and provided fourteen assists in his 30 appearances for the Serie A side this season.

“Great player. One like this could have played in my Manchester United, perhaps not as a starter,” said Stam, quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If you want to be at the top you have to have talents like him.”

Meanwhile, Alberto has admitted in a recent Instagram Q&A that he is hoping to sign a new contract with Lazio.
