Tottenham hero claims Ranger star would be ideal replacement for injured Harry Kane

Tottenham legend Gary Mabbutt thinks Jermain Defoe would be an ideal temporary signing for his former club. Spurs are looking for a replacement for Harry Kane, as the England international faces a lengthy injury lay-off. Kane suffered a serious setback on New Year’s Day, as he limped off the field during Spurs’ defeat to Southampton. On Thursday, Spurs confirmed that Kane will need surgery and will miss at least three months of action. Mabbutt told Love Sport Radio: “You can’t just go into a panic buy just because your star player is going to be out for two or three months, because when that player comes back the competition is going to be even greater. The player coming in may not want that. Ideally, you’d bring back in Jermaine Defoe on loan just to cover that area.” But he feels the capital club are prepared to cope without Kane, saying: “I think we’ve got a very good squad - last year in the Champions League in the game against Ajax, [Lucas] Moura stepped up and got a hat-trick which saw us get through to the final so we’ve got players there that can step up to the mark and now the opportunity is there for them again.”  Source-Express Join us on Telegram!
