Tottenham and Southampton have now reached an agreement for Hojbjerg to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to the Sun and TalkSPORT, fee of up to £25m has been agreed between the two teams after Spurs upped their original offer.
It is reported that Tottenham will pay an initial fee of £20 million upfront, with an additional £5 million in add-ons. Hojbjerg will now hold talks with Tottenham over personal terms, but that is expected to be a formality with the player having his heart set on a move to Spurs.
The 25-year-old has entered the final year of his deal. Jose Mourinho wants to sign a holding midfielder after agreeing to play Eric Dier in defence and sees Hojbjerg as a realistic upgrade to his squad.
Hojbjerg could be tailor-made for Mourinho. His best teams have always had a ball-winner in the middle of the park. The Dane averages 10.59 ball recoveries per 90. No-one in the Premier League has managed more this season.
When compared to midfielders who have played in at least 20 per cent of available minutes this season, Hojbjerg ranks 15th for tackles (2.64 per 90). He is 19th for interceptions (1.54). Most impressively, only Paul Pogba betters him for possession regains in the middle third (5.96).
