Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has sensationally resigned.
Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has emerged as a surprise favourite to replace Zidane.
Back in 2009, Perez spoke to the press about Wenger, and it seems the interview - in hindsight - sheds some light on why the Frenchman is a favourite for the Madrid job.
"We have always liked the Frenchman and we talked a lot with him," Perez told French publication L'Equipe some 11 years ago.
"But he feels very responsible of what is going on and of what is going to happen next at Arsenal. He did not want to leave this club which he has given a lot too."
