As Harry Maguire gets ready to leave Manchester United just four years after his record-breaking £80 million transfer, manager Erik ten Hag is considering various options for his defense before the new season begins.
Maguire, who used to be the club captain, has struggled with poor form and couldn't revive his career at Old Trafford under the Dutch manager since joining from Ajax last year. He had limited starts in the previous season and lost his captaincy before pre-season as United was open to offers for him.
Manchester United hae now agreed to a reported £30 million deal with West Ham for Maguire's transfer. He and the Hammers are set to negotiate personal terms for his move to the capital.
With Maguire leaving, United's defense depth is lacking, and Ten Hag aims to address this issue before the transfer window closes. He's considering Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen, Jean Clair Todibo from Nice, Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, and Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as potential replacements for Maguire.
There's also a possibility of offering a one-year deal to Jonny Evans, who returned to the club for their pre-season tour. Evans previously played for United and has impressed Ten Hag during his recent spell in the defense. He could provide a short-term solution while the club searches for a long-term center-back.
