"If I'm him": Callum Wilson urges one player to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has urged Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in Erik ten Hag's starting lineup.

As the summer transfer window reaches its crucial phase, clubs have a little over a couple of weeks left to finalize their squads, and many teams still have significant work ahead of them.

Among those teams are West Ham, who had identified Maguire as a potential improvement for their central defense, but Callum Wilson believes that the England international's skill level makes him a better fit for a higher-profile team.

Wilson shared his perspective during a conversation with Michail Antonio on the Footballer’s Football Podcast.

“I feel, personally, no disrespect to West Ham, he’s too good for them," the Magpies' man said, via TBR Football

“He has just been stripped of the captaincy but he’s a leader at one of the best clubs in the world over the last 20 years in Manchester United. I just feel, as a person I know him, he’s a fighter, he’s a leader, he’s a strong character."

Wilson added: “If I’m him, I would stay, I would fight and ultimately if Man United have a bad spell of 10 games, he could outlast the manager."
