Club legend calls out Manchester United key player: "He hasn't hit those heights"

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand called out Harry Maguire for his poor performance in the pre-season.

According to the retired defender, Maguire has not assumed his potential in the club. In addition to receiving lasting criticism for the past months, the England international was also stripped of captaincy at Old Trafford ahead of the pre-season. The club's new captain is Bruno Fernandes.

"He hasn't hit those heights," said Ferdinand via the Atheltic. While acknowledging the 30-year-old's satisfactory performance for the national team, the pundit admits he has been a disappointment at the club.

The England international's contract with United runs through 2025 with the option to extend it for another year. However, it remains uncertain if Erik ten Hag's side will extend the player's deal at Old Trafford.

"Harry [Maguire] was the Manchester United captain and plays in my position. I want him to do well. When he plays for England, he is phenomenal and I am one of his loudest shouters when it comes to what he has done for England.

But for Manchester United, he hasn’t hit those heights, and I am going to say it as I see it."
