Emi Martinez takes dig at former club Arsenal ahead of Premier League clash

Arsenal will host Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday, October 22. Ahead of the game, Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has taken a fresh swipe at his former side. Martinez was an Arsenal player from 2012 to 2020. During his time with the Gunners, the goalkeeper has been loaned to several clubs before he joined Villa in 2020. The Argentine goalkeeper played a vital part in the Gunners FA Cup win in the 2019/20 season, but he lost his place in the team after Bernd Leno returned to full fitness. "When I was on a high, I still felt like they didn’t deserve me because of the way they were treating me," said Martinez ahead of tonight’s match. "They couldn’t guarantee me the games I needed so I thought that if they couldn’t guarantee me the games I needed, then I’m moving on. "They didn’t say to me that I wasn’t going to play, they just didn’t guarantee me the games that I wanted to play. "So, after 10 years, I decided to leave, and it was very difficult. My family didn’t understand why I was leaving when I was at such a good level at Arsenal, but it was my decision to leave and I’m really proud I did it. "It was a gamble, but I always believe that if you stay in the comfort zone, you will never reach anything in life. I decided to take the step up." Martinez has become a key part of the Aston Villa team. During this season he has made 7 appearances in which he has kept 3 clean sheets and conceded 9 goals.   source - Metro /  Join us on Telegram!/ Follow us on Twitter!
