Deontay Wilder says he is backing Andy Ruiz Jr to beat Anthony Joshua

Deontay Wilder has revealed that he is backing Andy Ruiz Jr to beat Anthony Joshua for a second time. The Mexican, who beat Anthony Joshua in June, holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts. Ruiz will face Joshua again in their rematch in Saudi Arabia in December. Asked whether he is backing the 30-year-old, the WBC titleholder told Sky Sports: “I am. Ruiz Jr has all the motivation and confidence that he needs from the first fight. I don't think he is one to dwell after obtaining a little taste of success. This is just the beginning, especially when you become a champion. You've got to stay hungry. My man Marvin Hagler said you can't get out of bed in silk pyjamas, but with the win, it was a big boost, and he has the Mexican people around him.” Ruiz has previously stated he would welcome an undisputed title fight against Wilder if he does see off Joshua for a second time. Wilder will face Cuban Luis Ortiz. The Bronze Bomber beat the 40-year-old in March 2018 and the two are set to face off again at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 9.
