Deontay Wilder: “Andy Ruiz Jr would be bigger fight than Anthony Joshua”

Deontay Wilder has already booked in his next two bouts following the stunning defence of his world heavyweight title against Dominic Breazeale. Wilder destroyed fellow American Breazeale inside the first round on May 18. The Bronze Bomber, who has held the WBC crown since January 2015, is now looking forward to the future and has already announced his next two fights. Wilder will face Cuban Luis Ortiz. The Bronze Bomber beat the 40-year-old in March 2018 and the two are set to face off again at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 9. Wilder (41-0-1, 40 KO) obviously will have his eyes on the fight against Andy Ruiz Jr, if he gets past Ortiz next month. The Mexican, who beat Anthony Joshua in June, holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts. Ruiz will face Joshua again in their rematch in Saudi Arabia in December. He says that a fight with Ruiz (33-1, 22 KO) would be even bigger than a fight with Joshua (22-1, 21 KO), his old media rival: “The Ruiz Jr fight is even huger. Whoever wins is going to be a big fight. But the biggest fight is me and Ruiz Jr because of his Hispanic background, and he’s American, so he has both sides. Becoming the first Mexican heavyweight champion is huge because they’ve never had that before. A lot of people who weren’t alert on him, they are now. It’s bigger than what Joshua could ever be.”
