Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen has provided an update on Christian Eriksen following his on-pitch collapse in their 1-0 defeat to Finland in EURO 2020.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during their first game of the tournament when they faced Finland. The game was suspended, however, later that day it resumed and thanks to Joel Pohjanpalo’s only goal Finland won.

Since that, Eriksen was taken to hospital and his condition has stabilized.

Denmark are preparing to face Belgium on June 17 and ahead of the game, Boesen has provided an update:

“After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter). This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.

“We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time.”
