Chelsea transfer chief Marina Granovskaia was encouraged to make a move for young Barcelona defender Xavier Mbuyamba. The 18-year-old is reported of interest to Blues boss Frank Lampard.
The Blues have struggled defensively at times this season, conceding 39 goals in 29 Premier League games. Lampard is hoping to bring in new faces.
Mbuyamba contracted to the La Liga giants until 2023. According to Sport, Barcelona have now told Mbuyamba he will be allowed to leave on a free transfer when the market re-opens.
That means the London club may be able to land their man after all and are said to be leading the race to secure his signature.
