Arsenal in the race to sign Gelson Martins

Arsenal joined Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Gelson Martins this summer. The Portugal winger is preparing to cancel his contract with Sporting CP following the tempestuous end to the season. Gelson also played at the World Cup for Portugal – where he’s made just one substitute appearance. In May 50 masked fans attacked players and staff following the side's failure to qualify for the Champions League and now Martins, alongside William Carvalho, Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Ribeiro, Bas Dost and Daniel Podence could be available for free this summer. Arsenal are rumoured to have had a £26m bid rejected with his price at Sporting having been as high as €60m.
