Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has rejected a £60million summer move to Manchester United.
Following United’s dismal end to the season Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed considerable transfer funds and the Dutch international De Light could be a perfect option for his side.
However, Ajax has told United that they must look elsewhere.
De Ligt agent Mino Raiola, told United chiefs that he had no intention of signing a five-year deal worth in the region of £250,000 - despite Raiola believing it would be his best financial offer.
A source close to De Ligt told the
Daily Star: "Matthijs is going to become the best defender in the world.
"He will have the choice to join whoever he wants, but he has no interest in going to United. They are not the attractive proposition they once were.
"He knows he is in a strong bargaining position because his stock has risen so fast. He's one of the most in demand stars on the planet."
The most possible destination for De Ligt is Barcelona where he will be reunited with Frenkie de Jong.
