Jack Wilshere rates Unai Emery’s first season at Arsenal after top-four blow

Former Arsenal player Jack Wilshere, who joined West Ham, believes the Gunners have had a ‘good season’ despite missing out on a top-four finish in the Premier League. Arsenal lost three successive league matches before drawing to Brighton on Sunday and ended their hopes of finishing in the top four. Wilshere, who spent a decade at Arsenal before joining West Ham last year, said: “[Arsenal] obviously had a few opportunities to cement their place in there, but it wasn’t to be. But they’ve still got the Europa League, and that’s another way in if they don’t get in via the top four. “But I think they’ve had a good year. I think they’ll be happy, the fans will be happy, and hopefully they can win the Europa League and end with a trophy,” Wilshere told Sky Sports. Wilshere’s Arsenal career was ravaged by injury problems and his fitness struggles have continued at the London Stadium, with the midfielder playing just seven times for the Hammers this term.
