Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are at an ‘advanced’ stage in their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matt Doherty. Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the Wolves star in recent days.
Football London reported that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has identified him as a solution for the right-back issue. The North Londoners have already signed Joe Hart and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer. According to Romano, a deal for the Irishman is close now too.
This might accelerate rumours about Serge Aurier leaving the club. The Ivorian has been linked with a switch to AC Milan in recent weeks and if Doherty joins Spurs, it could well offset Aurier’s move to San Siro.
