Zlatan Ibrahimovic swapped Manchester for Los Angeles in March, has struggled at Old Trafford following a serious knee injury
"When we decided to spend another year in United, I thought I would not disappoint," reveals Ibrahimovic.
"Everything looked good with my knee and it did not seem like I would need as much rehab as we first thought."
The Swedish striker revealed what he told Jose Mourinho ahead of leaving Old Trafford.
Ibrahimovic told the United boss: "If you want me to play, I'm playing, but I do not want to disappoint you.
"I cannot give you what I can usually give you."
Soon after, Ibrahimovic asked United to allow him a free transfer to move to LA.
"I have no interest in seeing him play in the United States, I just want to say he is happy and happy," he said.
"This is what he does for the family, it's an old promise to Helena to move to Los Angeles once. She loves Los Angeles."
