“The Worst" XI of the year

Alexis Sanchez, Victor Lindelof and Mesut Ozil have all been named in “The Worst” XI in Marca’s spoof awards. Loris Karius unsurprisingly makes the XI after his Champions League final horror show, while Tiemoue Bakayoko is also in after a nightmare year at Chelsea. Swedish defender Lindelof was supposed to be the answer to Man United’s centre-back woes. Bonucci had a tough go of things after shockingly leaving Juventus for AC Milan… After spending his whole career at Schalke, Howedes attempted a new life with a loan move to Juve. Now the German is plying his trade, permanently, at Lokomotiv Moscow. Ozil had a year to forget to as he struggles to get back to his peak form. Legend Sneijder played just five times in Ligue 1 for Nice last season before signing for Al-Gharafa. Then there’s Ganso, whose disappointing season at Sevilla saw him shunted out to Amiens this summer on loan. For £500,000-a-week, you’d expect something pretty special… instead, Sanchez’s time at United has been a nightmare. Zero goals this season and a host of sub-par performances have seen people calling for his head just six games into the Prem season. Iheanacho meanwhile was meant to thrive out of the large shadow created by Sergio Aguero – but has mostly warmed the bench at Leicester. Vietto struggled mightily at Atletico Madrid and is now being given a chance to get his career back on track on loan at Fulham.
