The worst-case FFP scenario if Manchester City get hit with a Champions League ban

Manchester City could still face a Champions League ban. The club could be banned from Champions League, as English club is accused of breaking European Football Association’s financial rules and regulations. English football authorities demand a one-year-ban for Premier League champions. The final decision will be made by Yves Leterme, former prime minister of Belgium, currently leading investigatory panel. City have dismissed any wrongdoing and branded the accusations “entirely false”. They have appealed to Court of Arbitration for Sport, but their appeal ‘has no effect in stopping decision.’ What if that does not work? Daily Mail looked at the negatives, and even positives, of being kept away from the most elite club tournament in Europe. The Manager Mail Sport claims, of the biggest concern to Manchester City and their fans will be how to keep hold of a world-class manager such as Pep Guardiola without the attraction of Champions League football. The Players Not being involved in Europe’s top competition is something that lot of players find difficult to stomach. The club will be powerless to keep big names in the club. New Signings City have been able to offer their top targets three things over the past few years: The guarantee of a substantial pay packet, a near-guarantee of silverware and the chance to play in Europe's elite football competition year in, year out.  Take one of those off the table, and suddenly the prospect of joining doesn't seem quite as attractive as it once was. Financial implications  A season outside of the Champions League can prove disastrous for many clubs on a financial level. City would lose a sizeable chunk of income without European football. In the 2017-18 season, they received more than £57m in prize money alone. The figure for the season just gone will have been more again.
