World Cup may have 48 participants

South American football governing body asked FIFA to expand number of World Cup participants from 32 to 48 teams, according to Mirror. FIFA wants to do the expansion during 2026 World Cup, but COMNEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez asked Gianni Infantino to hasten the process for 2022 tournament.
