Porsche Taycan or 911? World Car Awards 2020. Nominees and favourites to win the five awards

All World Car award winners will be announced on April 8. Traditionally, the World Car Awards have always been announced at the New York International Auto Show, however, owing to the coronavirus outbreak, it will happen online.

This will be the 16th year of the annual award and seventh based on Prime Research’s 2019 media report.

World Car Awards were officially launched in January 2004 and are administered by a not-for-profit association, under the guidance of an executive committee, a steering committee as well as a group of advisors.

The award will be given to the winners of five categories: World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Urban Car, World Performance Car and World Car Design of the Year.

Who are the nominees?

World Car Awards jurymen have named the “Top Three in the World” finalists for 2020 in March. A total of 86 jurymen from around the world named the 15 finalists, in voting overseen by KPMG.

World Car of the Year

Narrowed down from a list of 29 nominees, the three finalists for the overall World Car of the Year Award are the Kia Telluride, the Mazda CX-30 and the Mazda 3.

Kia Telluride

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $31,890 – $43,790

Kia Telluride can seat up to eight passengers and offers a maximum of 87 cubic feet of cargo capacity. A 291-horsepower V6 is standard as are a lot of advanced driver safety features. Kia is also offering a feature such as an available driver intercom system. According to test drivers, the car drives well, has plenty of utility and pleasant passenger space.

Mazda CX-30

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $21,900 – $29,600

Mazda CX-30 is not here to replace the smaller CX-3, as the car fills the space between that subcompact crossover and the larger CX-5. According to reviews, the car has an impressive interior and every surface is soft. The car also presents far more driving elegance than you might expect. The engine is the same 186-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder from the CX-5.

Mazda 3

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $21,500 – $27,900

Mazda have two cars in the nominees for the award and the second one is Mazda 3, which offers plenty of value, performance and safety. The design is modern in and out. It also have sporty and engaging handling. The car also has an excellent audio quality from both available audio systems.

Mazda 3 is priced at odds of winning 2.30 according to VBet, while a Mazda CX-30 is available at 2.60. A win for Kia Telluride is priced at 3.50.

World Luxury Car
The all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQC and Porsche Taycan square up to the Porsche 911 in the World Luxury Car category.

Mercedes Benz EQC

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $67,900

Mercedes Benz EQC features a sunroof, SiriusXM satellite radio, a Burmester sound system, power liftgate, rear side-window sunshades, rain-sensing wipers, heated seats, rear air suspension, active brake assist, autonomous emergency braking, and LED headlights with active high beam assist.

Porsche 911

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $97,400 – $120,600

The car features infotainment updates and interior improvements. It’s fast in a straight line, balanced through tight or long-sweeping corners, and surprisingly comfortable to drive on a daily basis. It also features Powerful and surprisingly economical engines.

Porsche Taycan

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $103,800 – $185,000

Porsche’s first electric car is a sports sedan, which delivers incredible acceleration, precise handling, and dynamic styling. The car is the first production electric vehicle to use a two-speed transmission and an 800-volt electrical system.

Mercedes Benz EQC is priced at odds of winning 2.00 according to VBet, while a Porsche 911 is available at 5.00. A win for Porsche Taycan is priced at 2.30.

World Urban Car

For the World Urban Car, the Kia Soul EV and Mini Electric are nominated against the Volkswagen T-Cross.

Kia Soul EV

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $33,950 – $35,950

With a 64kWh output driving a 150kW electric motor, the Soul EV produces a sporting 201 brake horsepower, enough to drive the car from standstill to 60mph in a decidedly swift 7.6 seconds and on to an entirely adequate top speed of 104 mph.

Mini Electric

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $19,717 – $44,965

Mini Electric uses several components taken directly from the BMW i3. The 135-kW motor is the exact same part and the battery has the same energy range as some versions of the i3. The 2020 Mini Electric uses a 32.6-kWh lithium-ion battery has a usable capacity of 28.9-kWh.

Volkswagen T-Cross

  • Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) Range: $30,545 – $49,795

The car has a spacious interior with a straightforward cabin design. It features a good combination of athletic handling and everyday comfort, moreover, the car has a stylish exterior design.

Kia Soul EV is priced at odds of winning 2.60 according to VBet, while a Mini Electric is available at 2.30. A win for Volkswagen T-Cross is priced at 3.50.

World Performance Car

Porshe is dominating the World Performance Car award. Porsche 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4, plus the Porsche 911, line up alongside the electric Porsche Taycan.

The top three World Car Design of the Year contenders are the Mazda3, Peugeot 208 and Porsche Taycan.
