Will Cristiano Ronaldo miss Manchester United matches after red card?

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo received his first Champions League red card after 154 appearances in the tournament. The Portuguese star was sent off less than half an hour into his side's Champions League clash at Valencia on Wednesday night. He clashed with Jeison Murillo with the Juventus man appearing to kick out before pulling the hair of the defender as he sat on the ground. Ronaldo has been left sweating over whether he will miss an emotional reunion with Manchester United. Unless UEFA decide to rescind the red card, Ronaldo will sit out the visit of Young Boys on October 2. And if the suspension is extended, the 33-year-old would miss at least one clash with United. An appeal to any extended ban would have to be lodged prior to matchday three when Old Lady go to Old Trafford.

According to the UEFA guidelines: "As a rule, a player who is sent off the field of play is suspended for the next match in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Super Cup). "In case of serious offences, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment, including by extending it to other competitions."
