Brighton star Moises Caicedo, who is reportedly keen to make a move to his long-time admirers Chelsea has the potential to be the perfect N'Golo Kante replacement in the Blues' squad.
"N'Golo Kante [is my idol]. I like the way Kante plays because he pressures a lot. I learn every day when I watch him. I think it helps watching these top players if you want to carry on improving," said the 21-year-old upon his move to Brighton in 2021. Having quickly gained significant attention and success on the south coast, he is now prepared to fill the shoes of his idol at Stamford Bridge, as Kante gets ready to leave for Saudi Arabia's lucrative opportunities.
Despite being an excellent force to the Chelsea team, Kante was often caught up with injuries that culminated during the 2022/23. In contrast, Caicedo has almost never missed a game for the Seagulls or retained a serious injury. In this regard, the young Ecuadorian can be the Blues' new injury-free N9.
Another benefit of signing Caicedo is that it would allowing Enzo Fernandez to showcase his attacking prowess more freely. While he excelled defensively and filled the void left by Kante, Enzo sometimes struggled in one-on-one situations against faster opponents, as seen in the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi. With a top defensive midfielder alongside him, the 22-year-old could focus on his strengths and further elevate Chelsea's midfield.
After a highly challenging season, incoming coach Pochettino's side is in need of victories wherever possible. Convincing a coveted midfielder, who has drawn interest from top teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, would be a valuable gain for the club. It seems, that despite the absence of Champions League or Europa League football, Chelsea seems to have successfully persuaded the player to join Pochettino's project.
If Chelsea's sporting directors can secure a reasonable deal and Caicedo can quickly settle in as he did at Brighton, this signing could be a significant achievement, potentially propelling the club to higher positions in the English top flight.
