Manchester City could
still play in next season’s
Champions League, even if the Court of Arbitration for Sport upholds
UEFA’s decision to ban them for two years.
UEFA handed down a two-year European suspension for breaking
FFP regulations.
City are taking their case to the CAS (the Court of Arbitration for Sport) in a bid to get the decision overturned.
A statement released by the court on the appeal said that “it is not possible” to say when the matter will be resolved.
Depending on how long it does take, thus City could yet play in the Champions League next season, even if the appeal is not successful.
This would rely on City applying for a stay of the ban, and the CAS arbitrator panel agreeing to grant it.
Should their appeal still be unresolved come June 1, City would be addicted to the competition.
