Andre Onana managed to avoid being sent off despite receiving two yellow cards during Manchester United's tense win against Coventry in the FA Cup semi-finals on April 21.
The Cameroon international was first booked for time-wasting late in the game, which led to Coventry equalizing in injury time and forcing extra time.
In the penalty shootout, the goalkeeper again got a yellow card for arguing with the referee, but he was allowed to stay on the pitch as per IFAB rule 10.3, which states that yellow cards do not carry over to penalty shootouts.
"A player who was shown a red card during the game cannot take part. Players, substitutes, substituted players and team officials can get a red or yellow card during penalties." says the rule.
The FA confirmed that the 28-year-old won't face suspension for the FA Cup final against Manchester City. A similar situation occurred in Aston Villa's Europa Conference League win over Lille, where goalkeeper Emi Martinez received a second yellow during the shootout but won't be suspended for the next match.
