Willian wears the number 10 shirt at Chelsea, the number has been worn by many of Chelsea legends in the past with Mark Hughes, Bobby Tambling and Peter Osgood donning the iconic shirt.
The 31-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the current season and has been in discussions over a new contract at Stamford Bridge. Willian has dropped a bombshell over his future.
A report from Football Espana has looked at some comments from the Brazilian, and this is the clearest sign yet that he’s planning to leave:
“Everyone knows my contract ends in a few months, and renewal is difficult. I think it will be very difficult for me to renew, as I want three more years, and Chelsea have only offered two. At the moment, it is undecided what will happen, but I am free to negotiate with other teams.”
So who will take his shirt at the club?
The number 10 is probably the most coveted shirt number in world football thanks to Lionel Messi, Pele, and Francesco Totti as they have all worn the number 10 at some point in their careers and made it their own.
Eden Hazard had previously donned the iconic number at Chelsea before leaving for Real Madrid last summer.
Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic were among those vying for the no.10 jersey.
They are the future of Chelsea for many years to come at it’s possible that one of these two players will take the number.
However, they could face huge competition by newcomer Hakim Ziyech.
The Ajax player, who is set to join the Blues in the summer would like to take the shirt.
Another contender for the Number 10 could be Philippe Coutinho, should he sign a contract to join Chelsea from Barcelona.
